Don’t Fall for the Ego’s Version of Spirituality

It will only lead to self-destruction.

It is possible to understand spiritual concepts and yet use them for selfish ends. It sounds paradoxical because spirituality of any kind places the welfare of others above the needs of the self. But it happens all the time. This is the ego’s version of spirituality.

When you awaken, you realize that you must try to serve humanity. On a soul level, we all understand this. All cultures and belief systems in the world teach the value of elevating the collective instead of serving the self. It’s when the human ego enters the picture that things get muddled. Belief systems become religions and when there’s a human in control of people’s connection to the soul, it can get ugly.

It may not make sense to those who are still deeply attached to their egos, but there is such a thing as spiritual narcissism. And it’s very dangerous. It’s how cults and all kinds of oppression originate. When you have the knowledge of the higher realms and feel a connection to God but instead of using it for healing, you still focus on material pleasures for yourself, you are embodying the ego’s version of spirituality.
