In life, there will be dark times. We have light and dark within us alternating just like night and day. Chasing the light is hard at times when we feel like we’re sinking into an abyss. Recently, I went through a period of sadness where I had to fight back toward the light. Someone died. I died. Sadness pervaded.

I couldn’t learn how to return to the light in any other way than to experience this for myself. I had to determine my own path and make my own choices. No one was going to be there to save me from sinking. Like the white horse in The Neverending Story, I was being swallowed up by the sadness in a swamp. No one could reverse that process except me. Before I was completely lost, I knew I had to save myself.

So, how did I do it? That’s what I’m here to tell you. It was far from easy. I wished many times that I was dead. I was screaming for someone or something to appear and take me out of the darkness — back toward the light. But that person or that thing couldn’t come until I healed myself quite a bit. I had to clear the way for new things by being my own savior. Here’s an account in chronological order of how I did this.
