Humor Saved My Life, Literally

I make really “inappropriate” jokes.

Last year, I felt like I wished I was dead, so I made jokes about it. I joked about death, y’all. I did it on social media for everyone to see. That takes courage. But it was fun, too, and it saved my life.

I had something bad happen in my life last year, so I stopped caring what anyone thought of me and I expressed myself through dark humor. Some people couldn’t take it. There will always be at least one person who wants you to see a therapist when you start making jokes about off-limits topics like death.

Since I was able to joke about death openly, I actually ended up healing myself. But I wouldn’t have been able to do it if I’d done what other people wanted or expected of me.

To save yourself as I did, you don’t need to laugh about death necessarily. But laughing about your situation in life is recommended. See all of this as a Hollywood production. It’s all intended to shock and thrill. You just happen to be one of the characters in it.

Did you lose a bunch of money all at once? Find the irony in that. Did you just go through a devastating breakup and you are heartbroken? Make light of it. After all, what do you have left if you don’t have humor?
