If You’re Not Depressed, There’s Something Wrong with You

The world is a messed up place; it’s okay to acknowledge it.

I am not trying to bring you down by writing this, but there are things about this world that are really awful. Of course, there are really wonderful things here, too. But we can’t pretend that awful things exist.

There’s no sense or logic to what is happening to us and around us — and if you’ve decided that there’s a great purpose in this universe, then it seems like a cruel place because we have to endure so much pain for that purpose. If you think there’s no purpose and everything is just meaningless — randomness in all events — then that’s even worse. You would be hard-pressed to find joy in a meaningless life unless you’re totally mindless, which most people are.

So, if you are happy and you put people down who aren’t, then maybe you should rethink your stance. Why wouldn’t you be depressed here?

Furthermore, how have we all not completely gone mad?

It’s elitist to think your state of mental health is somehow higher in some hierarchy to someone else’s. Sure, maybe you’re a functioning citizen, able to survive in this mad world, but then is that even a good thing? Are doctors really healthier than their patients?
