In a World of Casual Relationships, I Will Rabidly Defend Love

I’ve been on dating apps recently. Therefore, as you can imagine, I’ve encountered tons of people who have closed themselves off to love and are in need of radical healing. It’s actually really sad. And it’s strange to find such people in a scenario where the idea is to forge connections with other humans. It’s like they’re literally going in the other direction and in major denial.

I decided that I’m defending love to the last. I won’t back down. Somebody has to.

I get matched with people all the time who will say that they want a casual relationship. It seems that this is all there is out there — men in their thirties and forties just looking to “have fun” without anything “serious” as if human relationships are gross. They’ll even shame me for thinking the opposite.

They want “friends with benefits” (yuck) or “something casual”, and this sends up red flags for me. It means all they want is sex. It means they have given up on love, or never knew it existed to begin with. I wish I could change their minds but it seems that they are very lost.

Are some people actually unaware of love? Maybe they think it’s a made-up story told in fairy tales. I’m here to…
