Superficial practices will get you nowhere.
Practice Mind-Emptiness Instead of Mindfulness
Concern yourself with your soul.
I’ve always found the term ‘mindfulness’ curious. Do people actually think they need to fill their minds with experiences — even ones that are here and now — to get to someplace serene? Why doesn’t it occur to most people that the “fullness” of your mind might actually be the problem?
To know your soul, you have to empty out all the busy thoughts. There has to be nothing. It’s hard to achieve, but not too hard. Anyone with a mind can do it!
All it takes is a commitment to look directly at yourself.
Nemours defines mindfulness as follows:
Mindfulness means paying full attention to something. It means slowing down to really notice what you’re doing.
It asks us to focus on what we’re doing fully. It asks us to think about the food we're chewing, the steps we’re walking, and the people we’re present with. It’s probably great for a superficial calming technique. But how beneficial is this, really? Is it getting at the cause of the problem?
No. It’s a bandaid.
