The Spiritual Reason Why You Don’t Recognize Your Reflection
Do you see yourself in the mirror or the face of a stranger?
At various points in my life, I’ve been taken off guard by looking in the mirror and seeing a person staring back who I don’t know. She is looking at me through eyes that are awake, searching, and just as surprised as I feel at this meeting. But I don’t feel a connection with her.
Recently, through the process of a spiritual awakening, I have finally come to realize why this happened. It is quite simple: our bodies are manifestations of our spirits which can and have inhabited other bodies. On top of that, our spirits are points of consciousness and individual identity emanating from the great consciousness that is the universe. So, it makes perfect sense if you look in the mirror and you don’t know that person looking back.
If you’re still reading, then you probably already understand this well. But have you come to know yourself, your true self? Does it have very much or anything to do with your physical body? The body is like the ego; we attach ourselves to it and allow it to be a measure of our value in the world. We need it to be actors in this great play.
