Well, before I was really spiritual, it was interesting to me that scientists tell us that the human brain became “bigger” through evolution when humans started hunting and eating meat. So it must be in our nature somehow. But of course, most primates are vegetarians.

I think you have to do what feels right to you. I personally always think “would I want to kill this animal myself to eat it?”

If I was living in a survival situation where this was the only choice, I would certainly hunt and kill with gratitude in my heart toward the creatures that are giving me nourishment. But being a conscious and intelligent creature with the powers of reasoning beyond the repetitive cycles of an animal, I know that I always have a choice about what I eat, and I want to choose what is healthiest for me that causes the least harm to the environment around me and other life forms.

Plants are also life forms, though. So it’s a dilemma. I would certainly be okay harvesting my food from a plant, more than I would be okay with killing an animal to eat it. Also, harvesting food doesn’t kill the plant usually.
