Why You Should Sit With the Pain

Feel the hurt without the suffering.

I have recently learned that distracting myself from my inner pain is not helpful to my healing journey. I must face it. But it seems that society recommends numbing ourselves from feeling hurt and sad. So, it’s a twofold battle: against the inner tendencies to distract oneself and against the world that’s telling you to give in to those tendencies.

But we have to feel the pain. The intense sadness, grief, hurt, confusion, and shock must be processed, and sometimes all it takes is a few moments of focus on it for significant healing to take place.

You have to do very little. It’s more about not-doing. All you have to do is sit with it. Don’t struggle against it. No resistance. Let it be in you. Let it come to the surface and face it courageously.

We are more familiar with the healing that takes place in our physical bodies than we are with the healing in our spiritual and emotional realms. But both are energy fields; make no mistake. They work in the same way. So, you must detox your system by allowing the natural flow of your feelings. Some of the baggage you’re holding onto deep inside wants to surface and be let go of.

Your mind wants to heal. Your energy wants to detox. All you have to do…
